Kuala Lumpur, 29 September 2025
Vantris Energy Berhad (“Vantris Energy” or “the Company”) today announced the appointment of Adnan Zainol Abidin as its new Chairman, effective 1 October 2025. Adnan succeeds Shahin Farouque Jammal Ahmad, who will step down from his role on the same day. Shahin will continue to serve as a non-independent member of Vantris Energy’s Board of Directors.
Adnan was previously the Chief Operating Officer of PETRONAS and has over 40 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. With a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the University of Leeds, Adnan began his career with PETRONAS in 1984 as a Trainee Engineer at ASEAN Bintulu Fertilizer (ABF). He has since held leadership roles spanning petrochemicals, LNG, project management and operations, both in Malaysia and internationally.
This includes helming PETRONAS’s Gas Business as Executive Vice President & Chief Executive Officer, as well as chairmanship of Pengerang Refining Company Sdn Bhd and Pengerang Petrochemical Company Sdn Bhd. Over the course of his career, Adnan has overseen PETRONAS’ key domestic and international LNG projects and assets, including the PETRONAS LNG Complex in Malaysia, PETRONAS Floating LNG SATU & DUA, Gladstone LNG in Australia, Egyptian LNG, and LNG Canada. He has also held senior leadership positions at Pacific Northwest LNG (Canada), Egyptian LNG, and PETRONAS Ammonia.
Welcoming Adnan’s appointment, Group Chief Executive Officer of Vantris Energy Muhammad Zamri Jusoh said : “We are honoured to have Adnan join us as Chairman of the Board. His deep expertise, proven leadership and extensive experience across the energy value chain will be essential as Vantris Energy embarks on the next chapter of its turnaround journey. I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Shahin for his guidance and leadership during a pivotal period for the Company, and look forward to his continued contributions as a member of the Board.”
Shahin, who joined Vantris Energy’s board in December 2023, was appointed Interim Chairman in June 2024 and redesignated as Chairman of the Board in January 2025. He continues to serve as Group Head of Strategic Investments at Permodalan Nasional Berhad.
During his tenure as Chairman and Interim Chairman, Shahin guided Vantris Energy through some of the most critical milestones of its restructuring journey. Under his stewardship, the Company successfully convened a series of court-sanctioned meetings with creditors, secured shareholder and regulatory approval for its Regularisation Plan, and formalised the subscription agreement with Malaysia Development Holding Sdn. Bhd. These efforts culminated in the achievement of the Restructuring Effective Date (“RED”), a defining moment that has laid the foundation for Vantris Energy’s transformation and future recovery.
With its financial foundation strengthened, Vantris Energy is now focused on an operational turnaround to sustain profitability, as the next step towards exiting PN17 status.
